Switching Formulas: Dos and Don'ts

We know how stressful feeding decisions can feel. Formula changes often come with fear, guilt, and a million questions.

But don’t panic! God made babies resilient and adaptive, and we’re here to help with a few gentle recommendations!

First, stay calm!

This is the most important step.

Your baby feels your energy more than you realize. Stress alone can impact their tummy - no matter what they’re being fed.

Babies are born with mirror neurons, which means they reflect your emotions (anxiety included). This energy can show up as fussiness, gas, or tummy discomfort.

A calm mama helps keep little bodies regulated. Even pausing to take a slow breath can send a message of safety and peace to your sweet baby’s nervous system.

Choose a Similar Alternative

If a switch is needed, choose a formula with ingredients as close as possible to what your baby is already using.

Similar ingredients usually mean a gentler transition for their digestive system. If you’re unsure which formula to choose, reach out to your pediatrician or healthcare provider - they can help you find a trusted, comparable option that works best for your baby.

Support the Transition

Sometimes babies need a little extra support while adjusting, and that’s okay. Having a few tummy-support tools on hand can make the process feel less scary and more manageable.

We suggest keeping the following in your cabinet:

  • Mylicon for gas

  • Mommy’s Bliss Constipation Ease

  • MaryRuth’s Infant Probiotics

  • Wellements Gripe Water

A Final Reminder

Nourishment matters more than perfection.
Love matters more than the label on the can.

If feeding plans change, that doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong - it means you’re showing up and adjusting with love. And that matters more than anything.

You’re doing a really good job, and we’re cheering you on!
